NEW YORK CITY: Mayoral Candidate Curtis Sliwa will be holding a press conference at the B’way (West Gate) entrance to City Hall, 10:30 AM, Friday. The event will also be live-streaming at Facebook.com/curtisliwa.
Eric Adams gave Mayor Bill de Blasio the benefit of the doubt on Thursday after the city Department of Investigation concluded that de Blasio used his NYPD-assigned security detail to inappropriately run errands for him and his family, including helping his daughter move, chauffeuring his son to college, and picking up meals for the mayor, the NYDN reported Thursday.
“He may be a mayor, but he’s still a father, he’s still a husband, and he must do whatever is needed to protect his family,” said Adams, who has known de Blasio for decades.
“Families in NYC are not safe, but we are worried about de Blasio’s family?” Mayoral Candidate Curtis Sliwa responded. “De Blasio de-funded the police. What about other families that are unsafe because he de-funded the police?”
When Sliwa won the primary, he was offered police protection. But he said “no” because the police need to be patrolling the neighborhoods.
When elected Mayor, Sliwa said he would not have police protection. Likewise, the other politicians should not have police security, especially since many voted to de-fund the police.
“It is the height of hypocrisy to give them protection,” Sliwa said.
The report also concluded de Blasio used nearly $320,000 in taxpayer cash to have his security detail join him on the campaign trail during his failed 2020 presidential bid — an expense he has refused to reimburse the city for.
