Curtis recently attended a demonstration that was being held in favor of protecting and often under appreciated facet of the law enforcement community, correctional officers. Curtis has been openly critical of the way in which Riker’s Island is being run by Mayor de Blasio, and has promised to make changes for the benefit and safety of both the inmates and the correctional officers if he were to be elected Mayor. At the demonstration, counter protestors who are anti-law enforcement and against the penal system were in attendance. Curtis remained calm in the face of harsh words and accusations being lobbied against him by these protestors, and even managed to have a civil conversation with one of the counter protestors regarding this issue.
